QUICK ANSWER

How much does a virtual assistant cost in the Philippines?

Published 2026 guides put Philippine virtual assistants at about $3 to $15 per hour, or roughly $480 to $2,400 a month full time, depending on skill. Direct hires cost the least. Agencies commonly quote $10 to $15 per hour with vetting and replacement included. Add platform fees, payment fees, and your own time to get the real total.

Most cost guides give one hourly range and stop. What you pay is the hourly rate, plus the route you hire through, plus payment fees, plus your own time. This post breaks down each piece with a worked example. For the hiring process itself, see how to hire a virtual assistant in the Philippines.

Nearly every published rate guide comes from an agency or job board that sells VA services. So I use ranges, name each source, and show my own arithmetic.

How much does a virtual assistant cost per hour and per month?

Stealth Agents compiled these hourly ranges from VAME.ph, HireTalent.ph, and Hurupay. I calculated the monthly column at 160 hours, which is 40 hours a week for four weeks.

LevelHourly rate (USD)Full-time monthly (USD)
Entry-level admin$3.00 to $4.50$480 to $720
Mid-level$4.50 to $7.50$720 to $1,200
Senior or specialist$7.00 to $12.00$1,120 to $1,920
Executive assistant$10.00 to $15.00$1,600 to $2,400

Other guides land in the same area but not on the same numbers. HireTalent.ph reports an average of about $6.40 per hour, or $1,126 a month full time, for general remote workers. Virtual Staff Finder lists $450 to $700 a month for a general VA and $800 to $1,400 for an executive assistant. VA Masters says most businesses pay $6.50 to $15 per hour through an agency. Treat all of these as ranges, not quotes.

Rates also move with the role. Work that needs a specific tool or judgment costs more than inbox sorting. To see what each role covers, read about e-commerce, customer support, CRM and data admin, and executive virtual assistants.

Why do rates vary so much between virtual assistants?

  • Skill. VA Masters reports a gap of three to five times between a general admin assistant and a senior specialist, even though both are called virtual assistants.
  • Hours. Kinetic Staff says part-time work typically costs 25% to 50% of the full-time equivalent. Stealth Agents adds that hourly arrangements often carry a 10% to 25% premium on the per-hour rate.
  • Route. Direct hires cost the least per hour. Agencies cost more and handle vetting, payment, and replacement.
  • Scope. A VA who administers a CRM or builds Zapier and Make workflows costs more than one who sorts email. The difference shows up in fewer errors and less rework. At Sales Fury, an automated inventory tracking system I built cut data-entry errors by 95%, and cleaning the underlying records improved data reliability by about 40%.

What does each hiring route cost?

The route changes the total more than the hourly rate does.

RouteWhat you pay on top of the VA’s rateWhat you getWhat you handle
OnlineJobs.ph (job board)$69 (Pro) or $99 (Premium) a month, with no cut of the VA’s wagesAccess to the candidate database and the ability to contact candidatesSourcing, vetting, contract, and payment
Upwork (marketplace)5% on each payment (3% for eligible US bank payments), plus a one-time contract initiation fee of $0.99 to $14.99Escrow, dispute mediation, and reviewsScreening a large applicant pool
Agency or managed providerAbout $10 to $15 per hour all in. One large agency lists $1,600 a month full timeVetting, a replacement guarantee, and payment handlingDaily direction of the work
ReferralNo platform feeA recommendation from someone you trustEverything else

On Upwork, the freelancer pays a separate fee of 0% to 15%, most often near 10%, and prices it into the rate you see. Some guides cite a client fee of up to 7.99% on certain contracts, so confirm the live figure on Upwork’s client pricing page before you budget. On OnlineJobs.ph a free account cannot contact candidates, and you can cancel the subscription after you hire.

What does a full-time virtual assistant cost over a year?

This is an example calculation at 160 hours a month, not a client result. It leaves out payment fees, 13th month pay, and your own time.

FIG. 02: Working out a monthly budget by hand: hourly rate, hours, then fees.

RouteExample rateMonthly costFirst-year cost
Direct hire on OnlineJobs.ph$5.00 per hour$800 ($869 in the month you pay for Pro)$9,669
Marketplace hire on Upwork$5.00 per hour$840 including the 5% client fee$10,080 plus up to $14.99 initiation fee
Managed agency$10.00 per hour$1,600$19,200

At these example rates the agency costs about twice as much per year. For that difference you get vetting, payment handling, and a replacement if the VA leaves. The better choice depends on how many hours you can spend finding and managing someone.

What costs sit outside the hourly rate?

  • Your time. Stealth Agents estimates that sourcing and testing candidates yourself takes 20 to 40 hours, and suggests budgeting 5 to 10 hours of management time a month. Put a dollar value on both.
  • Payment fees. These depend on how you pay. See the payment table below.
  • 13th month pay. Possible, depending on how the arrangement is classified. See the next section.
  • Holidays and leave. Agree in writing which Philippine holidays and leave days are paid.
  • Software seats. If the VA works in Gorgias, HubSpot, or Shopify, each tool may need a paid seat. Check each vendor’s current pricing.

Do you have to pay a 13th month bonus?

Whether you owe it depends on whether the person counts as an employee. Under Presidential Decree 851, private-sector employers must pay rank-and-file employees a 13th month pay on or before December 24 each year. It equals one twelfth of the basic salary earned in the calendar year, according to a DOLE labor advisory. Employment guides say independent contractors paid by output are outside the rule.

A title does not settle it. Philippine guides describe a four-fold test of how the work is actually done, and warn that labeling an employee a contractor can lead to back pay claims. If your VA works set hours, on your tools, under your direction, ask a Philippine labor lawyer or accountant whether the arrangement counts as employment. I am not a lawyer or tax advisor.

As an example, if it applies, a VA paid $800 a month earns $9,600 in a year, so the 13th month pay is $800. That adds about 8.3% to annual pay. This year’s deadline is December 24, 2026. If you plan to pay a contractor a December bonus as a custom, agree on the amount in writing.

What does it cost to pay a virtual assistant in the Philippines?

Payment fees come out of someone’s pocket, so decide who pays before work starts. HireTalent.ph recommends agreeing on this upfront. These are the common options, from 2026 comparisons and HireTalent.ph’s 2025 payment guide.

MethodTypical costNote
WiseAbout 0.4% to 0.65% conversion spreadHireTalent.ph says fees on a $500 transfer usually run under $5
PayoneerAbout 1.65% conversion spread, plus $1.50 per withdrawalOne 2026 comparison favors it for Upwork payouts
PayPalUp to 4% to 5% in total feesReported by HireTalent.ph
Bank wire$25 to $40 or more per transferRarely worth it for small payments

At $800 a month, 5% is $40, a wire is $25 to $40, and Wise at 0.65% is about $5. This is example arithmetic. Check each provider’s live fee calculator before you choose.

Can automation lower the hours you pay for?

Sometimes. Start with what the hours are spent on. As an example, if your team re-keys 40 Shopify orders a day at 3 minutes each, that is 120 minutes a day, or about 44 hours a month across 22 working days. At $5 per hour, that is $220 a month of VA time spent typing. This is an example calculation, not a client result.

A webhook can remove most of it. Shopify sends the order as a JSON payload the moment it is paid. Zapier or Make then uses API payload mapping to write the fields into HubSpot, and a lookup table skips duplicates. At Fire & Pine, my Zapier workflows removed 73% of repetitive manual tasks. To choose a tool, read Zapier vs Make for Shopify. For where AI and automation stop and a person should take over, see can AI replace your virtual assistant.

Is a cheaper virtual assistant the better deal?

Not by default. HireTalent.ph, a Philippine hiring platform, argues that $3 per hour is below a sustainable market rate and puts fair entry-level pay at $5 to $6 per hour. Published ranges still list $3 to $4.50 for entry-level admin work, so expect to see both. Rework is a cost, and a low rate that needs repeated fixes can cost more than a higher rate that is right the first time.

Compare candidates on a paid test task of one to two hours instead. Track the minutes taken, the errors per 10 tickets or 100 spreadsheet rows, and how many questions they asked. If you are still deciding whether to hire at all, read the signs it is time to hire a virtual assistant.

How do you estimate your own monthly cost?

  1. Pick the skill level. Match the work to a row in the rate table: entry-level admin, mid-level, senior or specialist, or executive assistant.
  2. Set the hours. Use 160 hours a month for full time, or 80 hours for 20 hours a week.
  3. Multiply rate by hours. For example, $5 per hour times 160 hours is $800.
  4. Add the route cost. Add the platform fee, or use the agency’s all-in rate.
  5. Add payment fees and any 13th month pay. Include the fee for your payment method, and 13th month pay if the arrangement counts as employment.
  6. Add your time, then test. Add hiring and management hours, then confirm the rate with a paid test task before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a virtual assistant cost per month in the Philippines?

Full time at 160 hours, entry-level admin help runs about $480 to $720 a month, and executive assistants about $1,600 to $2,400, using published 2026 hourly ranges. A managed agency commonly starts near $1,600. Add platform fees, payment fees, and any 13th month pay for the real total.

Is it cheaper to hire a Filipino virtual assistant directly or through an agency?

Direct hiring costs less per hour. In my example, a $5 per hour direct hire costs about $9,669 in the first year, against $19,200 for a $10 per hour agency placement. The agency price includes vetting, payment handling, and replacement, so compare it against the hours you would spend hiring and managing yourself.

Do I have to pay a Filipino virtual assistant a 13th month bonus?

Philippine law requires 13th month pay for rank-and-file employees, due by December 24. Independent contractors paid by output are generally outside the rule, but a contract label does not decide it. If your VA works set hours under your direction, ask a Philippine labor lawyer or accountant. I am not a legal advisor.

How much does a part-time virtual assistant cost?

Part-time work typically costs 25% to 50% of the full-time equivalent, according to Kinetic Staff. At the example $5 per hour, 20 hours a week is about $400 a month. Stealth Agents notes that hourly arrangements often carry a 10% to 25% premium on the per-hour rate, so confirm the rate for your hours.

What is the cheapest way to pay a Filipino virtual assistant?

Wise is usually the lowest-cost option, with a conversion spread of about 0.4% to 0.65% in 2026 comparisons. Payoneer is close behind at about 1.65%. PayPal can run up to 4% to 5% in total fees, and bank wires often cost $25 to $40 or more. Agree upfront who pays the fees.

Does a night shift cost more?

It can. Some VAs ask for a higher rate to work US hours, while Stealth Agents says managed placements usually do not add a night premium. Ask before you agree on a rate, and write the rate, hours, and overlap time into the contract.
